In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Allah, the Exalted, says:
"We only give them respite so that they may increase in sin, and for them is a humiliating punishment." (Qur'an 3:178)
How weak and fragile is an authority that has become so immersed in vice that there remains virtually no distinction between it and vice itself except in name.
Whether one says "the Bahraini authorities" or "vice," both have come to convey the same meaning.
What befell, in the recent past, the symbols of the people and the leaders of the nation—through torture, abuse, and humiliation for demanding freedom for the people of Bahrain—is now being inflicted, without distinction, upon forty-one of the country's most distinguished religious scholars, for no reason other than their belief in Allah as their Lord and in Islam as their religion.
In contrast, this authority regards criminal America as its deity and the man-made Abrahamic project as its creed.
Reports received recently of the severe torture being inflicted upon these esteemed scholars—including keeping their hands bound behind their backs for twelve hours each day, blindfolding them, beating them, spitting on them, insulting their religious sanctities and beliefs, and threatening them with sexual assault, among other acts that offend the conscience of humanity—place upon us a profound responsibility.
The true target today is religion itself, and the objective is to alter the beliefs of this indigenous people.
As political detainees, we express our strongest condemnation and our unwavering solidarity with our revered and distinguished scholars, who have devoted themselves to serving religion and the homeland.
We call upon all members of the people to rise in defense of these towering figures, each according to their capacity and position.
Let it be known that all the people of this nation are being targeted; it is only a matter of time.
May Allah protect our scholars from all harm and thwart the schemes of those who oppress them.
