ALWEFAQ
denounced the Bahraini regime’s arrest of prominent Shiite scholars, calling it unlawful and provocative.
The society said the detained scholars, who lead prayers and provide religious guidance, were targeted without legal safeguards.
Al-Wefaq warned the move risks deepening societal divisions and undermining governance, urging reforms including a popularly elected government, empowered parliament, independent judiciary, and measures to end corruption and protect national unity.
■ Below is the statement issued by Al-Wefaq:
In a suspicious, provocative, unlawful, and unconstitutional move, contrary to all norms and values, the regime in Bahrain announced accusations against the Shiite sect with ludicrous charges and arrested all its leaders and scholars without any distinction or legal safeguards, targeting the core religious elite engaged in teaching, leading Friday and congregational prayers, and responsible for religious, social guidance and outreach, who are not politically active.
The regime has arrested senior figures, individuals of integrity and clean hands, and the societal elite of scholars who preserved this country and its civil peace through their piety, knowledge, religious and national sense, who represent the trust and refuge of the people amid the absence of the state, its engulfment in corruption, plunder, theft of public funds, alignment with the Israelis, and isolation from the population.
Through these lies and provocative behavior, the regime sought to provoke Shiites in Bahrain and worldwide, daring to announce this sham spectacle by attaching the name of His Eminence
@AyatollahQassim
, the great leader and foremost figure of Bahrain.
The arrest of dozens of scholars in a ridiculous manner reflects the deep moral crisis within the authority, executing failed action-movie-like raids on scholars’ homes and publishing humiliating images of them.
This indicates a psychological state in which the regime attempts to satisfy its desire for revenge against the esteemed scholars—a pathological behavior that stripped the regime of the basic elements of state management and societal leadership. All violations of law and public decency are the regime’s responsibility, not its victim.
The regime’s behavior has unequivocally shown that Bahrain needs a balanced and just political system where the people and the law are sovereign, not chaos, hatred, and sectarian animosity, which the current authority has proven incapable of overcoming in state management.
Bahraini citizens quickly recalled the regime’s madness in demolishing mosques, burning and vandalizing Hussainiyas, arbitrary arrests, identity-based killings, and inquisitorial trials—obsolete practices that cannot form the foundation of a state built on hatred, sectarian madness, violence, insults, accumulated political failures, inadequate services, living conditions, coexistence, or diplomacy.
Legitimate and just popular demands have become urgent and necessary to return this country to the path of stability and restore the role of its marginalized people through:
● the establishment of a popularly elected government as a genuine guarantee of stability,
● a parliament with full legislative and oversight powers,
● an impartial and independent judiciary,
● ending the bleeding caused by corruption, plunder, and theft of public funds,
● halting assaults on the unifying national identity,
● and building a state based on institutions and law.
