Bahraini opposition groups, including
ALWEFAQ
, have issued a strongly worded statement condemning the escalating campaign targeting the Shiite community in Bahrain, warning that the authorities had entered a “losing gamble” by intensifying sectarian policies and security crackdowns.

The statement accused the ruling regime of carrying out raids against more than forty prominent religious scholars, seminary teachers, and Friday prayer leaders, describing the actions as a dangerous escalation that threatens social stability and civil peace in the country.

According to the opposition groups, the arrests and investigations of clerics under what they called “fabricated accusations” represent an attack on Bahrain’s religious identity and an attempt to intimidate the Shiite religious establishment.

The statement further argued that the current policies have transformed the political crisis into what it termed an “existential struggle over identity and dignity,” while insisting that the Bahraini people would remain steadfast in defending their faith and social heritage.

The groups also criticized the international community for what they described as silence toward the targeting of religious identity in Bahrain and warned of serious consequences if tensions continue to escalate.

Finally, the opposition called on Bahrainis to express solidarity with religious scholars through peaceful demonstrations, mosque gatherings, and public acts of support.

The statement was signed by several opposition movements and societies, including the Islamic Action Society (Amal), Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Al-Wafa Islamic Movement, the February 14 Youth Revolution Coalition, the Haq Movement for Freedom and Democracy, and the Bahrain Freedom Movement.
