The Government of Bahrain has issued a statement in the name of the Public Prosecution regarding the arrest of prominent Shia scholars who were detained by the authorities in a humiliating and provocative manner a few days ago.

These scholars belong to diverse religious schools and orientations and come from various governorates and regions across Bahrain.

The Public Prosecution has completely departed from its mandate and transformed into a politicized security body that levels false and contradictory accusations with the aim of confusing public opinion.

The statement constitutes a major sectarian scandal that reflects the nature of this institution and the institutions behind it, foremost among them the government.

It presents what is described as a grave injustice against an authentic and longstanding component of this country through hateful sectarian targeting filled with vengeance and resentment, without the slightest national, ethical, or religious restraint.

The Public Prosecution’s statement appeared highly inconsistent and contradictory to the remarks of Bahrain’s Minister of Interior, who accused the Shia scholars within hours of their arrest and before any investigation had taken place.

It also contradicts a previous statement issued by the Public Prosecution itself.
