According to a report issued by
ALWEFAQ
’s human rights platform, Mersad, a severe escalation in judicial sentencing was documented during April and May 2026.

The platform records a significant increase in politically motivated prosecutions, with the cases reportedly linked to the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran and the Zionist-American axis.

During this two-month period, Bahrain’s judiciary issued more than 91 arbitrary rulings, reflecting an intensified campaign of judicial repression against targeted individuals.

The documented sentences included:

■ 16 life imprisonment sentences.
■ 12+ sentences of 10 years’ imprisonment.
■ 22+ sentences of 5 years’ imprisonment.
■ 30+ sentences of 3 years’ imprisonment.

Al Wefaq notes that these figures illustrate a marked escalation in the use of punitive judicial measures.

Human rights observers have expressed concern that such heavy sentences, ranging from multi-year prison terms to life imprisonment, demonstrate the increasing weaponization of domestic legal systems under the pretext of regional geopolitical tensions.

According to Al Wefaq, the pattern of prosecutions and sentencing raises serious concerns regarding due process, judicial independence, and the protection of fundamental rights.

Observers argue that the severity and volume of the rulings point to a broader strategy of suppressing dissent through legal and judicial mechanisms.

Al-Wefaq has repeatedly stressed the urgent need for greater international awareness and scrutiny of these arbitrary judicial measures, calling attention to their potential implications for human rights and the rule of law in Bahrain.
